Summer Working

Working from home during the summer means I've got 2 cuties running in and out of my office all day.  Some times to ask me a question, other times to show me something, and some times to give me a sweet hug! Pin It

Feature Friday: Strapless Tank

As the owner of Hip Mountain Mama I select and try on each item that comes into our shop.  Some I select because I like them, other items I select because I think you will like them.  I try on the items to get an idea of the fit and material so I can give you the best idea of how the item will work for you.

I have to admit I am personally not someone who ever wears strapless tops.  Call it insecurities or a lack of desire, but I just never went for items without straps!  Plus I wear a bra no matter what, so where are my bra straps going to go?

When I tried on the Strapless Tank I had no intention of actually liking the way it would look on me.  I grabbed my strapless bra, which I bought and wore once 6 years ago at a wedding, and threw on the Strapless Tank.  I paired it with my Flare Yoga Pants, because honestly I pair just about everything with these awesome pants!  I was pleasantly surprised at how the Strapless Tank fit me.  It was comfortable, cute, and just felt really easy to wear.  The elastic on the top and under the bust was tight enough to keep it in place, but not too tight to make it uncomfortable.  And I love how the bottom half of the tank flows out so it's not binding on my Momma belly, but not too flared out to make it look silly.

Now for the kicker...it has 2 pockets!  Any clothing item that has at least 1 pocket gets a thumbs up in my book.  I love that I can head out for a ladies night and stick my phone, id, and cash right in my shirt pocket!  The Strapless Tank comes in so many colorful designs that the one you get will be an original.  What a fun top for summer. Wear it with your favorite mini skirt, jeans, yoga pants, hippie skirt, shorts, or throw it on over your swim suit!

Enjoy!  ~SuzyPin It

Green Adventures Summer Camp

We have recently been getting involved with our local youth gardeners program...and loving it!  The girls did a few sessions of Green Adventures during the school year and are now having the time of their lives during the Green Adventures Summer Camp.  I almost didn't sign them up because they were already signed up for a soccer camp and hip hop class in June...but boy am I glad I decide to sign them up.  They had so much fun and they have declared that they are doing the rest of the summer camps (there are 3 more).

The program is run by free spirited Bill who is a Kindergarten teacher in town and kind hearted Janessa who is an intern.  They planted, hiked, did crafts, made healthy and fun snacks, got dirty, played, and made new friends.

During the 5 day camp a community was created of 5-12 year olds who not only had fun, but learned a lot about treating people and our Earth with respect.

They learned about nurturing the environment, their community and their bodies in a fun, hands-on setting.  This little community of fresh young minds brought home recycled crafts, seeds to plant, and a desire to learn more.

We only planned on attending the June Camp, however after their excitement we have decided to do all 4 camps.  The next camp is July 9-13 and is all about having fun with entomology: the study of insects, by meeting them up close and personal.  The camp is for any child age 5-12 and goes from 8:30-11:30.  The tuition is $85 per child, however there are sibling discounts and discounts for signing up for more than 1 session.  Signing up is easy..just follow this link and sign up for whichever session works for you.  If you are in Loveland or surrounding towns, I would highly recommend having your children check out this fun summer Green Adventures Camp!

Feature Friday: Mariposa Tee

The Mariposa Tee is adorable, lightweight, soft and perfect for summer here in Colorado! I absolutely love the way it feels--super soft, light and airy...and I love the butterfly!
"Live the Life You Love, Love the Life You Live" is printed (with earthy friendly, phthalate-free inks!) above the antennae of the butterfly. Words of wisdom by the one and only Bob Marley...
Sunset at Lake Loveland, CO
I absolutely love the comfort of the Mariposa tee. It's fitting, but not too tight...love the cap sleeves and scoopneck, too, for a feminine touch.

checking out the High Park Fire

It goes with anything--shorts, jeans, skirts--It's been my go-to tee lately. I love it!

Feature Friday: Shroomy Hip Pack

I purchased the Shroomy Hip Pack  so I could bring it with me to our first music festival (Lightening in a Bottle). It was great to have on while carrying my 3 1/2 year old on my back. My hip mountain husband was even caught wearing it!
The front pouch is great for chapstick, some money, HMM tattoos, and a few other little important things you might need. The bigger pouch was great for sunscreen, sunglasses, a few bandanas, etc. I love the "secret" other zippered part for keeping money, or other important things you don't want to loose. :)

I also used The Shroomy Hip Pack at a food swap/sale at our house, and used it as a money pouch. I used the front part for change, and the bigger part for dollar bills.

I have been using this so much, I even wore it to the City Farmers Homesteading Festival. So convenient while chasing children (purses just get in the way sometimes).

I know what you are thinking...I would never wear a fanny pack, it is SO 1980...and I agree, however, this has much more style and makes you feel less dorky! It is even husband approved! ~Rachael

Love that messy camping hair!

The HMM Coozie...it made lots of appearances on this trip!

Gorgeous
We started off our camping season with a trip pretty close to home.  Vedauwoo Wyoming is a gorgeous area just north of the Wyoming border that stands out among the rest of the landscape.  There are huge rocks piled upon huge rocks which makes for a rock climbers paradise.  We camped at the camp ground with some friends and explored a lot of the area.  This was our third time to camp here so we were pretty familiar with the lay out and had a blast climbing, hiking, scrambling, and just chillin at camp.  A great way to start off the season with many more trips planned!

The Family That Hoops Together...

My daughter turned 8 in April and the one thing she asked for was a hula hoop like mine.  She had always used the plastic kid hoops and has always been an amazing little hooper.

She started using mine a year or so ago and loved it, so I wanted her to have her very own custom hoop.  I found an awesome Etsy shop that sells hand made hoops called Hoop Mamas.  Of course I loved the name, but I also loved that they had a section just for kid hoops.  Their customer service was awesome and I loved that I was able to have them make a custom hoop with Magnolia's favorite colors complete with moons and stars!

Magnolia loves her new hoop and we love getting out and hooping together.  She is a natural and is ready to start learning some tricks!  Happy Hooping!Pin It

Feature Friday: Recycled Silk Skirt

The Recycled Silk Skirt is by far my favorite piece of clothing I currently own! This skirt is so beautiful I hesitated to wear it much at first, but it's so comfortable and flowy that I wear it ALL the time. It goes with every color in the rainbow and it's the perfect weight.

The length and the fabric make it warm enough to wear when there's a chill in the air, but it's still lightweight and breezy enough that I wear it in the sticky Kentucky heat, too! I've worn the recycled silk skirt for dressy events and I've worn it to the grocery store.

I wear it on play dates,  road trips, and the farm with the kids when we go on "rock hunts" and weed the garden. It has held up remarkably well with all the wear and tear I put it through. My requirements for clothing as a busy outdoorsy mama include comfort and style, but more importantly, will it stand up to dirt, dogs and toddlers? YES YES YES!

This skirt has impressed me so much and I highly recommend it! My only gripe is that it is hand wash only. That hasn't really been a huge problem for me, though. It just means I wear it a few times before I wash it, and really, what do you expect with silk? For a dainty fabric, the recycled silk skirt is one tough skirt!
