Playing at Turquoise Lake

A couple of weeks ago we found ourselves with 4 free consecutive days and a desire to get out and explore.  If you know us, you know that when we have free time, we go and play!

So we grabbed our tent, packed up the car and headed to the high country.  Excited to escape the unusually hot weather and smoke filled air from the many Colorado wildfires, we were giddy to breath some cool mountain air.

We headed to Turquoise Lake which is in the little town of Leadville Colorado that sits over 10,000 feet elevation.  The air was cool, fresh, clean, and refreshing.

We set up camp right next to the lake and spent the next 4 days relaxing and playing.  It was a different world from the 100 degree smoke filled town we had just left and it was just what we needed to re energize.

There is something about mountain lakes and rivers that just calm my entire being.  I find myself breathing deeper, taking things in, and clearing my mind all without ever realizing I am doing it.  It's pure magic that I can't even describe in words....but you know what I am talking about if you have ever sat in the quiet and looked out over a lake in the middle of the mountains.  Bright, clean, refreshing, gorgeous, alive, pure....

  1. Turquoise lake looks like such a beautiful place. Great pictures, especially that last one - your dog looks like he/she is doing some crazy yoga move!

  2. What are the water temperatures like up at Turquoise Lake in mid- July? Wet suit needed, or ok in bathing suit?
    Thanks!

  3. My girls went in the water with just bathing suits, however I would not. It's pretty chilly and I would recommend a wet suit!
