Let's Make Green Changes Together

Here at Hip Mountain Mama, we are all about making green changes.  In fact if you have been with us for a while, you know we headed a grassroots movement to inspire folks to make small changes each month, called One Small Change.  We have taken a break from this project but in my heart I know it is time to bring it back.  I know I don't have the time or man power to bring it back in the capacity we ran it before, but I feel like it's important to use this space to make positive changes.  Sure, we have a store and we make a living off of selling our items, but Hip Mountain Mama is so much more than this.  I want to bring this blog back to a place of inspiration so we can all help to preserve our precious planet together!

My hope is to get a few blog posts up a month regarding making small eco friendly changes in an effort to get the message across that even small easy changes can make a difference.  We will be using this blog instead of our old One Small Change blog so you can just stay here with us.  I would love it if you followed along and made changes along the way.  Our last project asked that folks make 1 change each month, but this time around I am going to encourage people to select changes in their life when they are ready and let the changes flow naturally as they need to.   Maybe you will make 1 or 2 changes per year or maybe 1 or 2 per month.  However you decide to implement change into your life is up to you...we will be here to guide you with information, ideas, and inspiration.  If you feel moved to share your changes with us, please don't be shy!  I'd like to say that I will have a blog post up once a week on the same day each week, but I am being honest with myself and not setting up a schedule.  Instead I am going to go with the flow and see what happens...and hopefully, together, we can make small changes that will create a large impact on our Earth!

Keep an eye out soon for my first One Small Change Post this week!  And I will confess there will be times when I will re post old posts from One Small Change Blog!  And we are always open to guest posts!

For now...if you would like to start making small changes in your life, why not start now.  The first step is deciding you are going to make an eco friendly change...so sit with this idea for a few days...let the ideas flow and you will know when the time is right to go for it!

  1. Yay! I look forward to one small change returning. I've gotten off track on some of the changes that I've made in the past and need to get back on them. I've found that when some fall by the wayside it's easy for other things, potentially more important things, to slide also.
    Thanks!

  2. Yay! I think this project is important as it helps keep eco-consciousness present. We have kept our changes, but with a move and baby on the way, I've been less focused on eco-changes and more focused on bringing eco-consciousness to these big life events.

    I was also really excited to learn that after a recent family visit a family member was inspired by what we are doing to start her own series of changes.

  3. I am new to Hip Mountain Mama but have made some small changes to reduce my carbon footprint in my own home. I know that some of these have probably already been suggested and/or implemented by other members but the following are changes I have made:
    1) Reducing the amount of laundry soap in the wash and let the COLD water do the washing;
    2) Putting a bath towel in the dryer to reduce the time needed to dry the clothing;
    3) Eliminating disposable wipes and dust cloths and cleaning with rags/mops/brooms instead;
    4) Using vinegar/water solution instead of commercial chemical cleaners like Windex; and,
    5) Using herbal medicinal products, when possible, for the health of my pets. (i.e., My 9-year old female bluetick hound has bladder control problems due to complications when she was sterilized at the Veterinarian's office. Instead of purchasing expensive chemical drugs for Lucy Belle, I went to the local health food store and purchased a bottle of Bladder Control for $17.00. This product works great and causes no harmful side effects to the dog.)
    Anyway, I hope these changes can reduce my carbon footprint and maybe other members can implement some of the changes for themselves!
