We like to drink beer. In fact, we even have a Kegerator in the garage. Yes, I know these are usually things that you find in fraternity houses and college apartments but we love having beer on tap. We are friends with a local brewmaster and enjoy saving some money while drinking beer brewed down the street.
This purchase was made shortly after we were married and even after our first daughter was born. We were at a home improvement store buying stuff for a bathroom remodel project that Andy was working on. While I was down a different isle picking out a new sink, Andy somehow ended up with a Kegerator in the cart.
Our days are filled with raising our children as naturally as possible and running a busy eco-conscious store. After all of that, it is nice to wind down with a cold one. As we are approaching our middle 30's we have discussed selling the Kegerator to some kids at the local University but actually having a Kegerator is a very green thing to do. We don't have any bottles or cans to recycle, in fact the one container, a 16 gallon keg gets reused many times. Plus the beer is made locally reducing the energy used for transporting the beer and we are helping out people we know.
So there you have it. Hidden in the corner of our garage is a Kegerator.

You guys are awesome!
ReplyDeleteMy husband would love a Kegerator. Where does one buy something like that? I am a huge fan of Hefferveisen. We never tried to brew our own but a few of our friends do. We're lucky they like to share.
ReplyDeleteSo cool!! I love trying all different kinds of beer from around the world. We garden, keep a chemical free lawn, use rechargeable lawn machines instead of gas, use composts and a rain bucket (if it was hooked up properly), and the list goes on, but we race a race car on weekends likely creating terrible emissions to have fun racing down a track at an unbelievable speed. So, there is my unofficial secret back at ya. Nice Kegerator! :)
ReplyDeleteWe got ours at Home Depot several years ago!
ReplyDeleteAwesome! I hope Home Depot still carries that.
ReplyDeleteWe LOVE to have a nice cold beer, especially in the summer. Since having my baby boy, I will not touch any of the beer from large brewers after learning that they have over 100 ingredients, but need only disclose something like 30 of them!! A small brewer uses 4 ingredients! FOUR!!! So there you have it, buying a locally made brew is the BEST thing. What's with me and capitals?!
Anyway, I am jealous of your secret ;)
Kegerator here I come!

We love ours too, and it is TOTALLY the green way to drink beer! We love not having to recycle bottles and we also love the convienience of being able to invite friends over at any time to share happy hour without having to run out to the store. Hope to share a cold one with you soon!!! How about Saturday night??? Yee-haw! See you at Red Rocks!
ReplyDeleteOkay wow I'm adding that to the list next time I go to Home Depot for sure!!! Too bad I can't drink right now, because I sooooo need a cold one ;) !!!!!!
ReplyDelete~Samantha
ok my husband and your husband would totally hit it off. beers for all! ;)~
ReplyDeleteOurs is in our mudroom, husband has two corny kegs in it, one filled with his very own homebrew and the other filled at our favorite, as close-to-local as we can get brewery. Washing glasses beats having to recycle all those bottles and cans!
ReplyDeleteI think you already know how much I approve of your kegerator (and beer in general), but I also thought I'd take the opportunity to say I approve of Truthful Tuesday.
ReplyDeleteIt's easy to blog about the shiny stuff and leave the "real" (and sometimes messy) aspects of life behind the internet veil. So kudos to you (and Eileen) for introducing this and I hope it catches on.
I know several non-college people in the area with kegerators and you are right, they are a greener choice for imbibing! Plus, you are doing so in the comfort of your own home so you aren't burning fossil fuels to get to a pub etc. and you aren't out on the roads with alcohol in your system.
ReplyDeleteHysterical! I like this new category of posts (truthful tuesday)...
ReplyDeleteOh, I love this!!!! And the "green" justification makes perfect sense -- we might even have to find a way to get one.
ReplyDeleteI am loving this Truthful Tuesday.
ReplyDeleteSometimes I wonder if I'm referencing beer too much in my blog (it was a focus of one of my One Small Changes), but yup, we like to drink beer too, and there's always a growler or two in the fridge and I love a cold beer in the garden (or on the couch), at the end of the day.
Enjoy that kegerator, girl!
shhh...we are getting ready to start brewing as well...kegerator here we come! heheh
ReplyDeletelove it!
