Now onto April...I have been dragging my toes on this issue for a couple of years now. Doing laundry is not my favorite thing and, as we all know, it is never ending. I have been scared to add the extra work of hanging my clothes to dry for fear that I would do laundry less and less and run out of clean clothes to wear. So, for the past 3 months, I have been reading about so many One Small Change participants making the switch and claiming how much they like it, while feeling such guilt, but still not personally making the commitment.
Now I am not going to say I am excited about this change...I am still scared and worried I will fail, but it's April, darn it...almost Earth Day, and I am going to make the change!

We have this broken umbrella that has been sitting on our patio for over a year and is actually quite an eye sore. We can't use it as an umbrella anymore, but didn't want to just throw it away...so Andy came up with the idea of transforming it into our new clothes dryer. He plans to take a look at it in the next few days and will hopefully start hanging our laundry by next week (did I say hopefully??). I will update here once we get going!
Are you participating in One Small Change? If so, I can't wait to read about your change. If not and you want to join us, please check out the One Small Change website and get started...it is never too late to make changes!!

Andy sounds just like Patrick. The man can look at what I call trash and he sees something totally tranformable and useful! BTW I love hanging clothes on the line. Henry's diapers are the best out there!
ReplyDeleteToo funny, my post yesterday was about using my clothesline. I've found that I'm better about getting clothes folded in a timely manner when I hang them. You can do it!
ReplyDeleteWow your braver than I! While I do enjoy hanging out the clothes on the line, I just can't make the switch (yet) to every time I do the wash. I will have to head over to one small change and get more motivated!
ReplyDeleteI use the same laundry drier inside and out. If it rains I just pick it and cart it inside to carry on drying.
ReplyDeleteI love the smell of sunshine on clothes and dry them outside whenever I can.
That's my change too! However I have to admit, mine will be much easier as I'm only laundering for myself. Good luck! :)
ReplyDeleteI love hanging my clothes, though in the winter it is way too windy around here to hang them out and unfortunately I do not have the space inside to hang clothes for six. The weather is just starting to perk up around here, so I'm hoping to get hanging outside again very soon.
ReplyDeleteWonderful Suzy.. we hang our clothes inside as well all winter... just another habit.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see what Andy comes up with -
We have been hang drying everything for 3 years now and yes it is a little more work perhaps, especially with children but I agree that we do fold them sooner. We're lucky to be living in San Diego so using the sun to dry the cloths makes it faster and they smell wonderful. My daughter (3 years old) loves helping me hang. She gives the laundry and I hang them. Good luck!!!
ReplyDeleteHey, great idea! Now, I'll be scoping out broken umbrellas for a possible dryer replacement! We hang our clothes pretty often, but I'm ready to commit to fulltime, also hopefully. haha!
ReplyDeleteI've been hanging out my laundry for about three years, now, and I haven't even used the dryer in over a year (we had a lingering illness last year and felt like we needed to use the dryer ;). I use a wooden drying rack during the winter and the outside line during the summer. I love it, and I wouldn't go back. In fact, I'm trying to get my husband to let me donate our dryer ;).
ReplyDeleteI hang our clothes (family of 4) out and love it. I have a blog post called "Ode to My Clothesline" that might inspire you:
