Chocolate Worms

When I was leaving the house yesterday I noticed a little worm on the driveway. I gently moved him into the grass while thinking about all our little squiggly friends and how much they do for us. In getting our gardens ready, we always encourage the little guys to set up home in our soil. If we see one on the porch, the kids will quickly scoop it up and put it in the garden.
Having earth worms in your garden will greatly improve your soil!

In honor of our special little friends, we decided to make chocolate worms. The kids were excited, then a little weirded out, then gobbled them up asking for more and more! This recipe is pretty easy and makes for a yummy treat! Not the healthiest of treats, but delicious and fun!

Chocolate Worms
1 cup of water
7 T butter, cut into pieces
3/4 t salt
1 cup flour
1 cup eggs (typically 4 large eggs) well beaten
4 oz semi sweet chocolate

Heat the water, butter, salt, and sugar to a boil in a heavy saucepan. Remove the saucepan from the heat and add the flour all at once. Using a wire whisk and wooden spoon, stir the mixture in a back and forth motion until the batter is all mixed. Let it cool slightly. Add the eggs a little bit at a time until they are all incorporated using the whisk and wooden spoon. It should now be the consistency of thick custard, smooth and shiny.

Spoon the mixture into a pastry bag fitted with a 1/4 inch plain tip. Squeeze the mixture onto a greased cookie sheet in worm shapes.

Bake in pre heated 425 oven for about 12 minutes or until edges are golden. Let them cool.
Melt the chocolate in a double broiler or microwave (2 min at 50% power). Drizzle the melted chocolate on the cooled worms.

Enjoy!!

**On another note...We are on a mission to spread the word to America that we can make a difference on our earth if we all start making one small change at a time. Please read this post and take the simple step suggested to help get the word out...and you will be entered into a drawing for some awesome produce bags!

  4. Nice worms! Reminds me of some creepy cheddar fingers I made one time (with almond finger nails). Great recipe. I recommend it for Halloween.
