Spring Nature Baskets

With Spring approaching, we are getting really excited for all the fun outdoor activities that come with it! The weather is changing around here and the snow is melting fast. One of our favorite family activities is going for nature walks and hikes. The kids some times moan and groan when we mention going for a hike, so we have come up with a solution to this....Nature Baskets.

They usually carry along a basket in the hopes that they will find some really cool object that they want to bring home with them. Usually a rock, leaf, pine cone or feather. This gives the kids something to entertain themselves with while exploring the natural world.

This week as they were carrying around their baskets, we started talking about making their baskets pretty by adding some spring colors. We headed home and got to work on their Spring Nature Baskets.

What we used (this was all stuff we had around the house...no need to buy anything):

plain baskets
wool
yarn
stickers
acorns
glue gun
How we did it:

We gathered all our materials and the kids picked what they wanted on their baskets and where they wanted it. They stuck the stickers on and I used the hot glue gun to stick everything else on. Then we wrapped yarn around the handle and called it done.

The kids were so excited to have their new pretty baskets to take with them on hikes! Having girls and their love of making things pretty can be a lot of fun!

  6. What a great idea to bring a basket (and a pretty one at that!). Usually I end up with pockets full of leaves, pinecones, and dandelion heads.
